Darvish Khan and his band. Darvish Khan / Gholam Hossein Darvish (b. Tehran 1872 - 1926) was born into the most respected musician family and was considered as one of the iranian masters in late 19th c. beginning 20th c. He was really modern in his performing and composing and recorded many of his Tar compositions. It is said that he added one string to the Tar to enhance it’s sound.

Shooting the background stuff for the La Brea Tar Pits sequence. Huge thanks to Mr. Warburton and Son for their excellent papier mache’! And to Deva Nitins for the photo! I did my best to get some practical bubbling tar with dry ice smoke. It worked well for a couple of shots, but despite the plastic we sprung a leak. Still, it all came out pretty well!
